The National Agency of Diaspora participated in the event “The Role of Diaspora Businesses in the Digital Transformation of the Albanian Economy and European Integration,” organized by the Albanian Diaspora Business Chamber in cooperation with Innovation 4 Albania, within the framework of Europe Week.

The event brought together representatives of state institutions, the business community, economic experts, entrepreneurs, and distinguished representatives of the Albanian diaspora to discuss the role of the diaspora in Albania’s economic development, digital transformation, and the European integration process.

The event was opened with remarks by the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Ms. Delina Ibrahimaj, who emphasized in her speech the importance of technology, innovation, and digitalization in increasing Albania’s competitiveness in the European and global markets, as well as the potential of diaspora businesses in bringing investments, expertise, and European standards to the country.

On behalf of the National Agency of Diaspora, Executive Director Ms. Emonela Xhafa addressed the participants, sharing several recommendations from the 4th Diaspora Summit, where it was emphasized that remittances should be transformed into concrete investments for the country’s economic development. She highlighted the importance of strengthening economic and institutional ties with the diaspora, encouraging investments, and supporting innovative entrepreneurship as key elements for the modernization of the Albanian economy and its alignment with European standards.

Participants were also informed about the steps undertaken for the drafting of the new National Diaspora Strategy and the 2026–2030 Action Plan, aimed at strengthening the role of the diaspora as a strategic partner in Albania’s economic, social, and innovative development. The strategy seeks to establish concrete policies and mechanisms for engaging Albanian professionals, businesses, and investors abroad in the process of European integration and the modernization of the Albanian economy.

During the discussions, participants highlighted the importance of creating policies that encourage the transition from remittances to investments, support for start-ups, and the development of sectors with strong potential such as fintech, tourism, manufacturing, services, and agriculture. The role of the Albanian diaspora in strengthening strategic partnerships and modernizing the Albanian economy in line with European Union standards was also emphasized.
