A meeting of the Steering Committee of the Regional Project “Leveraging the Potential of Diaspora to Advance EU Accession and Labour Mobility in the Western Balkans” was held in Tirana, organized by IOM Albania and AICS Tirana, with the participation of partners from across the Western Balkans.

The National Diaspora Agency also participated in the meeting. The Executive Director of the National Diaspora Agency, Ms. Ermonela Xhafa, shared Albania’s experience to date in developing diaspora policies, with a particular focus on the process of drafting the National Diaspora Strategy 2026–2030 and the Action Plan 2026–2028, developed with the valuable support of IOM Albania.

Participants shared their experiences and recommendations, focusing on strengthening regional cooperation and exploring how the potential, expertise, and networks of the diaspora can contribute to socio-economic development, labour mobility, and the European integration process of the Western Balkans.

By connecting people, skills, and opportunities across borders, we can help transform diaspora engagement into a driver of opportunity and development, both for communities across the region and for those who remain connected to it from abroad.

The National Diaspora Agency remains committed to strengthening partnerships and creating mechanisms that enable the expertise, knowledge, and potential of the diaspora to contribute to the development of Albania and the wider region.
