Today, we bow with solemn respect before the memory of the birth of our National Hero, Gjergj Kastrioti – Skanderbeg, the emblematic figure who defied time and history, who became a symbol of invincibility, dignity, and resistance, who united and continues to unite Albanians under a sacred ideal—a figure who is not merely part of our glorious past, but a great colossus who continues to illuminate our national identity and pride.
The National Diaspora Agency began this year with a special tribute dedicated to the figure of Skanderbeg, also commemorating with respect the anniversary of his passing. This tribute was realized on January 17, on the occasion of the anniversary of Skanderbeg’s death, in cooperation with the National Museum “Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu” in Krujë and the Municipality of Krujë, in the very heart of our history, as an act of reverence to his timeless greatness.
Today, on the day of his birth, in this atmosphere of remembrance and national pride, we share with you the documentary “Donika Kastrioti – An European Princess,” with screenplay by Martin Çukalla and directed by Ylli Pepo, “Artist i Merituar,” a work that brings to light the noble figure of Donika Kastrioti, Skanderbeg’s wife, who shone not only as a princess of medieval Arbëria, but also as a personality of European stature.
This production by A.R. Production was gladly supported by the National Diaspora Agency and comes as a dignified narrative that enriches our historical memory and elevates her role in our national heritage 🇦🇱.
Presented also during the proceedings of the 4th Diaspora Summit, this documentary stands as a vivid, profound, and emotional account of the life, work, and legacy of Skanderbeg’s family—a historical narrative that never fades from our national memory.
This promotion will continue its journey beyond borders, being screened throughout this year in several countries such as Greece, the UK, Germany, and many other places where the hearts of Albanians beat.
