Today, at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the meeting of the Interinstitutional Working Group for the Drafting of the National Diaspora Strategy 2026–2030 was held, chaired by Deputy Minister Ms. Miriam Shyti, with the participation of representatives of the institutions that are members of the working group.

This process marks an important step in the continued commitment of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Albanian Government to strengthening the role of the diaspora in national development and in the European integration process.

Supported technically by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as well as by local and international experts, the process will be carried out through a structured, inclusive, and interinstitutionally coordinated approach among all relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, it will be discussed extensively in dedicated workshops during the Diaspora Summit in April 2026.

The Strategy will be aligned with the Government Programme 2025–2029, the Global Compact for Migration, the 2030 Agenda, and European Union policies, consolidating the existing national strategic framework and addressing the diaspora not merely as a source of remittances, but as a key actor in development and public diplomacy.

By 2030, the Albanian diaspora is envisaged as an institutionalized strategic partner, a co-creator of public policies, with direct and measurable impact on the country’s economic, social, cultural, and democratic development, as well as on the acceleration of European integration.
